On 6 March 1929, several revolutionary persons and movements leaded by General Plutarco Elias Calles founded the Revolutionary National Party (Partido Nacional Revolucionario, PNR). In 1938, under the administration of Lazaro Cardenas, the PNR became the Mexican Revolutionary Party (Partido Revolucionario Mexicano, PRM) and created its own professional organizations. In 1946, the PRM took its current name, the PRI. Under these various names, it gained a total control on the Mexican society.

Few weeks ago I visited the Congreso Nacional del PRI building in Mexico City in order to know more about the Priista emblems. In the lobby or waiting room, I could see the National Flag with Golden Arms added with two golden text:

1.- "ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS", forming an arc above the Coat of Arms.
2.- "PARTIDO REVOLUCIONARIO INSTITUCIONAL", bellow the Arms, in a straight line.

The emblem is a circle divided into three vertical bands, whose colors are those of the National Flag (green, white, and red). The party initials are placed over the bands, one letter-one band. Behind the achievement a gray square.

The most popular unofficial PRI flag is plain white charged with The proportions are 4:7 (like the National Flag).
